I'm probably missing something here, Jurgen, but why not set up the Mac to turn itself on 1 or 2 minutes before the scheduled backup? That way you don't have to worry about being there to boot it up...

Just answering Dave's question, the Ultra enclosure uses the Prolific FireWire chipset, which will boot Tiger, but is kind of flaky about mounting, etc. Best avoided. Dale Meyn.
