Smile About this Mac

Same here! I was so eager to find the info that I blew right past it! Talk about hiding in plain sight! Thanks.

Unhappy Boot disk

This may sound like a dumb question, but where in About This Mac is this information? I found it last week, but right now I must be blind.

Partition table and bootability

No, I've only ever had one external connected to the system at a given time. Even if that weren't true, all the partitions have distinctive names.

I didn't know that--live and learn!

Partition table and bootability

I have a G4 iMac running OS X 10.4.11. For ~2 years I've been cloning my internal HD to an Other World Computing Mercury On-the-Go drive:

Unhappy I just may have my answer here

http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/editors/2005/08/fwbooting/index.php

Question Boot from FireWire HD

All partitions are MacOS Extended.

Boot from FireWire HD

I don't really see any info at the bootom right of the window, but one bit of info in the right of the window is "Format: HFS+". Is that what you need, I hope?

I think I'll try option-boot when I'm about to head out on an errand, then let you know what I see when I get back home.

External drive is a 120GB drive w/4 x 30GB OS X-formatted partitions: P1,...

Post Boot from FireWire HD

Nothing else attached. If there's a problem w/the FW bus, then I wouldn't think it would matter which keys I hit while booting--unless it was actually booting from the local HD and I didn't know it....

Boot from FireWire HD

This morning I started SD copying my entire HD to a FireWire HD, told SD to boot from the FW HD when finished, and went out to breakfast. (This was in preparation for upgrading from Jaguar to Tiger.)...

Question Pre-maiden-flight questions

I made successful full copies just a few days ago, so that's encouraging! Does the following procedure sound reasonable? (I find myself wishing for a cross between a question mark and a colon!)

Question Pre-maiden-flight questions

My G4 iMac running OS X 10.2.8 is starting to freeze up fairly often. I often tune up the hard drive with Micromat Drive 10 (which I run from the bootable Drive 10 CD). In the past, Drive 10 has...

Question Can SD do this?

I last stuck my head in here in April, when I asked if SD was suitable as a replacement for Retrospect for backing up to CD's. The clear consensus was that it wasn't.

Since then, I've gotten a...

SuperDuper! as backup/restore program?

Yep, the CD backups are a PITA. I would have liked to get my Mac w/a SuperDrive, but money was a bit tight when I got it. I'm leaning towards (one of these days) getting a FireWire DVD burner.

I...

SuperDuper! as backup/restore program?

I've perused the SuperDuper manual and the forums a bit and seen some references to using it as a backup/restore program, but the emphasis in the manual seems to be pretty much on the Safety Clone....
