well that seems to have sorted the problem by...
well that seems to have sorted the problem by just logging into a different user account on the mac mini. maybe it was the spotlight indexing. there you go problem sorted. thanks for your help.

just after plugging in my external again to mac...
just after plugging in my external again to mac mini. different reading this time. and its indexing all the volumes. so its showing 17.22 GB available on the drive. which is different from yesterday....

i also viewed the volume on my macbook and it showed the same sizze 16GB. which is what SD reported.

what do you mean by finder "not refreshing"? ...
what do you mean by finder "not refreshing"?
when i view the volume in finder it shows the partition "Mac Mini Backup" has 16GB or so.
