Either way, renaming the mounted sparseimage before restarting for the restore worked. ...

I'm having this same problem. I've been using Smart Update and had to do a restore to my startup disk. After the restore in Disk Utility, I rebooted with the Opt key, but Macintosh HD was not one...

Thanks for the reply. The file that hangs up SD is my Parallels WinXP image which is about 8GB, though I have about 40GB free on the target...

Having the same problem. Could this be due to using a specific drive to store the backup? I'm using a Buffalo 250GB Firewire drive and it's been consistently slow waking up for anything.
