Isn't the safety clone or Sandbox a bootable volume? I understand that it is not for restoration purposes but instead as a substitute hard drive and way to keep the original hard drive...

The screen shot on page 47 of the user's manual shows disk format as Mac OS Extended (journaled)

Tiger help has this to say about such formating:

" Mac OS Extended format is a hard disk format...
