Wicked. Slow. Back. Ugh...
Backing up to a network drive over Airport Extreme, the performance is stultifyingly slow. I gave up when, after over 8 hours, it had only made it about halfway. The speed topped out at 0.89MB/s. I'm wondering if the problem might be not enough room to jockey files around in the process.
Capacity: 55.88 GB Available: 6.81 GB Other details are "Backup - all" and "Smart Update". Should I perhaps do the first backup with a direct connection, and then do subsequent smart updates via the convenience of the network drive? |
Well, that's certainly what I recommend in the "Airport Disks" post at http://www.shirt-pocket.com/blog... but, is that what's available on the drive when you're only 1/2 way? It's quite possible your destination isn't large enough to hold the full source...

And I thought I had looked thoroughly through your resources for the possible causes of my problem...
I will do my first backup via Firewire 800 (because I can!) and then the Updates can take their sweet time. O.B.T.W. The drive capacity info I gave was for the source disk. The destination has scads of free space. Thanks again! |
