Replacement MBP and External USB

Hey guys, got a question. I am getting a replacement Macbook Pro unit as my current MBP has exhibited too many problems. I have backed up (smart backup) all my data with SUPERDUPER on my external USB Sata Drive.

What is the simpliest and easiest way to get my brand new MBP to be exactly like the old one. I ask because I have heard that USB externals won't work with the Migration assistant. And I would hate to have to drag and drop all the apps and stuff.

Any step by step help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Jake

You'll boot from the external (verify before you send it in) and use SuperDuper! to copy everything back, Jake.

Dave,

Thanks for the quick reply. So I should have no problem booting from it even thought its a USB external. Do I just hold the option button down and boot from the external USB? Then once I am up, I open SD and copy to Macintosh HD?

Can I use migration assistant or is this (above) the best way?

Thanks again!

Jake

As long as it's an Intel mac, and your USB drive is partitioned with GUID (again, check before you send this stuff in), you shouldn't have any problem. And, yes -- just like it's described in the user's guide.

I really don't know if the migration assistant works with USB drives. You can try! It allows you to point at existing partitions, so I'd be surprised if it didn't recognize USB mounted volumes.
