Backing up and restoring iPod mini?

Can SuperDuper! be used to clone an iPod (mini in my case) and then later restore it? Or does the iPod have some funkiness that prevents this from working?

Here's the scenario. I sync my iPod mini with my iMac at home, but sometimes I have some audio on my Powerbook that I'd like to get onto my iPod mini, even if temporary. Can I clone the iPod to a disk image, then change the iPod to sync with my Powerbook, then later restore the iPod from the clone, so it will go back to syncing with the iMac again, with everything intact including any song ratings I had made on the iPod (prior to the clone and change in sync machine), play dates/counts, etc?

Although I haven't tried this, I doubt very much that it'll work, unfortunately. The only way to be sure is to try it, but I'm not hopeful.

I suppose there's no harm in trying. I will give it a whirl and report my results.

The only benefit to doing this *if it works* is that it will retain the data (play counts/dates, track ratings set on the iPod, etc). The music can easily be restored just be switching back again to syncing with the iMac, although I suppose I should back up my iMac's iTunes library prior to trying to sync with the "restored" iPod, lest some corruption should occur to the iMac's library due to any weirdness on the iPod.
