server connection interrupted

This is not a SuperDuper problem and probably a MacOSX network problem, but I thought you might have come across this connection issue and so might have a reason or solution.

Reasonably frequently when I am using SuperDuper to backup drives to a NAS drive/sparse image I get this message 'server connection interrupted' from MacOSX. The result is that the backup is not completed, and I have to start again. It also means it is difficult to rely on scheduled backups.

The NAS drive is to a home Ethernet network and I use SMB. I have configured the NAS drive to stay on for 5 hours.

This seems only to be a problem when using SuperDuper to backup to the NAS drive - it doesnt seem to happen when backingup to an external Firewire connected drive.

This sounds like a problem with the NAS, actually: I back up to multiple NAS devices every day during testing (ReadyNAS NV, ReadyNAS Pro, Time Capsule and Airport Disk) with no problem other than the non-ReadyNAS devices are significantly slower...

Thanks Dave

I've since had a suggestion that the solution lies in modifying the Advanced Network settings in System Preferences from configuring Automatically to Manually. Not sure why this would work. Apparently mine is not an isolated problem.

Perhaps your IP address has a short renewal time, and changed?
