Managing SD and TM to minimise backup space?

This may be old news but I've been combing threads and finding nothing. I'm looking for the ultimate backup solution: Using Super Duper! + Time Machine seems sensible but very space consuming (esp for HD video user like myself). Is there anyone out there who uses SD to generate a bootable copy of system files only, while using TM to archive data files, as a way of minimizing use of disk space? Could one then boot-up from SD and restore the rest of the data using TM? Anyone?

You could certainly exclude certain folders from your SD backup (e.g. your "Movies" folder, or whatever you're considering "Data") and manage that with Time Machine -- but it is nice to have the extra redundancy of both SD! and TM for the information: disk space is cheap, after all, at $200 for a 2TB drive...
