15" MBP has no sound

My old 10/2008 macbookpro had to replaced with a brand new one. I dl'd SD onto the new one, did a copy to the new one and everything seemed to be great, real easy to do.
But, now I have no sound at all. I was told that I have to back up with TM, re-install the OSX disks and restore from the TM backup.
I am now in the process of backing it up again.
But, why??

I cover this in a lot of places on the forums, but it's because the new Mac has hardware that isn't supported by the "main" build of OS X. It comes with a special build.

So, you'll need to clean install from the original discs that came with the Mac. Then, when prompted to 'copy from another Mac', point it at the backup volume. It'll bring in your applications and data, and leave the special OS build in place.

Make sense?

Is it covered in a FAQ thread?

Good point! I'll get something up there...

Thanks. Btw, I did look for one but wasn't sure what the title might be.

All is well now. I am disappointed that the clone missed that. Everything was working except the sound.

The clone didn't 'miss' anything: it can't include things that aren't there, and the special drivers for the new Mac aren't in the 'main' build of 10.5.7.

I've added a FAQ to help with this particular situation.
