Backup Strategy - Weekly & daily
I am trying to construct the following backup strategy:
(a) On Sundays do a full backup - This I can accomplish using the "Backup - All Files" option. No problems here; (b) From Monday to Saturday I wish to perform a backup of all files that were not the on previous Sunday's back up and backup all files that have been modified since the previous Sunday's backup. This is my problem. How does Super Duper know when the last full backup was done in order to perform the comparison? What are my options to accomplish this backup strategy. Any thoughts? |
You'll need a separate, full backup that you'd "Smart Update" daily.

Backups on different partitions.
Will this work if the weekly backup is in one partition and the daily backup is in another partition?

Figured it out. Thanks for your help
I had previously set up two partitions on an external hard drive, one to store the weekly back up and one to store the progressive daily. Two partitions are no longer required.
I will now set up set up Sunday as a normal full backup from my hard drive to the external drive . Then set up Mon-Fri as smart updates to the external drive (same partition). Thanks for the help. |
No - you don't want to do that. Your weekly backup will be 'updated', which means you basically only have a daily backup.
The point is to have two, full backups. One is updated once a week. One is updated daily. |
Now I am confused.
Does this mean that I should do the following:
(a) Run a full backup once a week, Sunday, to the first partition on the external drive; (b) Run a smart backup daily, except Sunday, to the second partition. Is this correct? |
Yes, except that your daily backup can be updated on Sunday, too. :)

Thanks for your help.
