smart update problem

Hi

For the first time ever in years of happy use SD is doing Smart Update on a 2 week old clone and behaving as if everything as changed. Only 150MB is regarded as up to date. I am going to just let it run but was wondering what might cause this ? How does SD determine if a file has changed ? Is it modification date ?

MacBookPro, 10.6.6, SD 2.6.2

PS: Is there any reason not to just keep smart updating a clone for years or should it be periodically erased and done again ?

Is it possible that the passport has failed? Check to see if the disk space on your startup drive is going down.

There's generally no reason to 'reset' a Smart Update, although I do recommend doing so when you switch major OS versions (often the file system will be updated, and that'll rewrite all the low-level structures).

Hi

Thanks. When I got up this am I had the start up disk full problem. Couldn't boot with the startup disk. The passport booted ok though so I trashed some files and I'm know booted on the startup disk waiting for the finder to empty the trash with the temp files in it!

OK ran it again tonight it was all fine copying over just a small amount of stuff Not sure what caused the glitch last night. Spotlight was trying to index the startup disk at the same time and hanging on "estimating the time" if that is an issue.
