Auto backup question

Hi,

I wish to schedule an entire bootable image of my G5 once a week to a network file server that has AFP support. So I'm able to create the sparse disk image needed. And I've verified by running SuperDuper manually that I'm able to create (and test) the backup.

My concern is this: in the very beginning of the manual, it says "ALthough it is not strictly nec., it is always good practice to quit all running applications and before performing a backup [...] which can be done by relogging in and holding down the shift key".

Perhaps my backup strategy is not a good one? I was imagining the computer would just back itself up every, say, Tues at 2am. But then I wouldn't be around to "hold the delete key", which assumes I could automatically log myself out and then relog back in. From the manual's discussion of scheduling, it seems expected that SuperDuper would be used in a less constrained operating state.

Is there an elegant way to do the "good practice" while also having it happen automatically?

Thanks for the great product,

It's not strictly necessary to quit everything. Just don't run Entourage, Parallels, VMWare, BitTorrent -- basically, things with large files that are constantly updating.
