SD Keeps Running, Accessing HD

I'm fairly new to SD but like it very much.

I've had a recent problem where SD continued accessing my HD after the scheduled backup (smart backup) was complete. The drive kept clicking sporadically and I couldn't unmount it as I got a "still being used" warning. When I went to shut down SD, I had to use a force quit.

I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.11. My drive is a 500GB G-Drive using the FW 800 port.

Any ideas what's going on there? When I finally shut down SD, the drive quieted down and went to sleep as it is supposed to.

No, we weren't accessing it if we weren't actively copying. It was likely Spotlight or an AntiVirus program.

It seems logical. However, there's no antivirus program on the machine. If the program wasn't accessing the drive, why couldn't I quit the program. And why when I did quit the program did the drive immediately stop.

It felt to me like the program was hanging at the end of the copying process.

If you couldn't quit, it was because it was still running... not being there, or seeing what you saw, that -- and the above -- are all I can offer as suggestions.

OK, thanks much for your help. I'll keep an eye on it during the next scheduled backup to see if it exhibits the same behavior.
