Cloning-SD failed to copy-error log

Error during cloning:-I apologise for this detailed query-wanted to provide all the relevant details.

I was trying to make a bootable clone of my (failing) internal HD on a Mac OS extended (journaled) partition created using Disk Utility.

I have a Powerbook laptop G4 Titanium, 867 MHz DVI model containing a 40 GB Toshiba ATA hard drive. Initially it came with OS 10.2 I think (or may be OS 9.2), now I am running this with MacOS 10.4.11 and I also have classic running some macOS 9 applications. Recently I noticed that sometimes when I started the laptop, it gave a high pitch sound and the Disk utility showed a fatal error-back up message. So I bought a new 160 GB 5400 RPM Seagate ATA hard drive, connected it to the laptop using a fire-wire connection, and made 2 partitions (100+49 GB) using disk utility. I want to clone the Powerbook HD (40 GB) onto the 100 GB partition, and if the clone works fine, then I hope to replace the internal HD with the new Seagate HD.

I downloaded the most recent Superduper version (not registered yet) and tried to make a clone using Erase and Backup all files option. SD failed to copy completely (log copied below). It looks like I have to delete some files. Can Danian or anyone else suggest a solution? Thank you for SD and for this great forum.

Yes, looks like

Code:

/Users/sundaram/Library/Mozilla/Profiles/default/op2jc1y7.slt/downloads.rdf
which is part of your Mozilla profile, needs to be removed. The User's Guide "Troubleshooting" section goes through the steps you need to follow to diagnose this kind of thing...

Note, too: if you register, you'll be able to Smart Update the backup, which will 'resume' much more quickly because it won't re-copy everything. A good idea considering you've indicated your drive is failing (not the best time to start backing up).

Thanks dnanian. Doing this for the first time, I was reluctant to do that on my own initiative (deleting a file like that-not sure what it would end up with) and whether subsequently I would get several files one by one like that (still could happen) and I would need to delete them all which could affect some major application (mozilla may not be such a problem as if I downloaded it again, it should install clean files). Anyway, I guess if a specific sofware file is corrupted, I would have to remove it.

In this case, as you have suggested, I followed the Troubleshooting guide and tried to copy the file and it did not work; so I have deleted it and I am trying to make a new clone. Will update how that goes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have now registered SD hoping to use all the advanced features and support further development.
Thank you

Glad you're on your way again: good luck with the failing drive!
