ACLs. Nothing in the docs about them?

My menu in SD has this item under Advanced:
_____
During copy
(checkbox) Copy ACLs from Macintosh HD
_____

Nothing in my docs mentions, discusses or refers to "ACLs" but there it is in the main program like everybody in the universe knows exactly what it is.

You know, ACLs, like your daddy taught you when you were three!

Nothing in this discussion seems to connect with the term via Search.

I found it in Wikipedia as "Access Control Lists" and that seems important enough to be chatted up in the documentation.

What's the real story here?

ACLs are "access control lists", which are basically an extended "permission" setup under Leopard (and Tiger server) that provides for more precise control over file access. Keep it checked. :)
