Spotlight state not preserved
 

I'm using 2.6.2 v87 and I partitioned by external drive for 2x160GB. I then added both partitions to Spotlight's Privacy tab.

I did a full backup with "erase then copy" and once the backup was done, I noticed that Spotlight started indexing the drive. Why wasn't the spotlight state preserved when I added it to the privacy tab? Is it because the partition was erased before the backup took place?

It's because you erased. It's preserved on a smart update. (The privacy tab info is stored in a hidden folder on the disk that's erased when you erase.)

Thank you for explaining! So, what is the recommendation when the backup disk is clean and you do the first full backup. Use erase and copy or smart update?

Smart Update is fine.
