Disaster restore with SD bootable backup

Hi
In order to restore from a SD bootable backup, does the drive have to be a FW? I am using naked drives in Voyager devices made by Newer Technology and I only own the one that has a USB 2.0 port, no FW.

Intel Macs can boot from both USB and FireWire, assuming the drive is partitioned properly (as GUID/GPT).
