SD & OSX 10.4.3 Server
Hi all
Does anybody have any issues with share points from the back up boot disk after running SD, or any other issues with OSX 10.4.3 Server from the boot disk after running SD. Only asking so as I can be aware of any possible issues. cheers in advance Budgie |
We have one user who is having a weird problem with ACLs duplicating themselves on his source. We're unable to reproduce this case here, though we're still trying.
Apart from that, there should be no server-specific issues. Please remember that active servers like MySQL should have their databases dumped before you back them up -- use the pre/post backup shell scripts to handle this kind of thing. |
Hi Dave
Im not sure how to set up the, or where to find the particular scripts that relate to the dumping of the database of the OSX 10.4.3 server., tad nieve when it comes to this side of it. Can you point me in the right direction please. What does dumping the database do?, how and what does it affect on my server?. Budgie |
MySQL is the database that comes with OSX. If you're not using it, you probably don't have to dump the databases, but I regret that a MySQL tutorial isn't something I can offer here (though if another user here on the forums has the time to explain how mysqldump works, I'd appreciate the chip-in).
Basically, you'd use the mysqldump command to dump the databases, which generates a nicely checkpointed version that can be restored later, should it be necessary. Without that step, you might be backing up a "live" database file, which isn't guaranteed to be in "closed" state at the time of backup. |
