mach-kernel repaired

Greetings!

I have used SuperDuper for about a month now, and really love it.

Whenever I perform a smart update clone to my backup drive, and then repair permissions on the backup, I get the following message:

Symbolic link ./mach->mach_kernel repaired

I know symbolic links are somehow related to aliases, and that this is probably something I really not need worry about.

Am I correct in not worrying about this message?

Thank you

Mike

Totally normal & OK. We purposefully don't copy that, and it's automatically recreated by the system when you boot from the drive.

I have been experiencing problems with Shut Down using the Apple Menu on my iMac 17" 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo computer. The only way I can rectify the problem is to repair permissions on my back up after the Smart Update. I receive the same message as you after the Back Up, "Symbolic link ./mach->mach_kernel repaired". After that my computer shuts down ok. Any suggestions as to what's happening here please?

I don't think this has anything to do with your shutdown problems, actually. We consciously don't copy that link, since it's automatically created during the startup process. Disk Utility will also create it, as you've seen.

But since this is on the backup drive, it really won't affect shutting down the source.

What specifically happens when you try to shut down?
