Scheduled backups & locked screen
I purchased SuperDuper this afternoon and successfully created a bootable backup alongside the existing time machine backups on an external hard drive. I then went to create an automated backup schedule only to discover that SuperDuper can't backup with a locked screen!? :(
I know I should have researched this more thoroughly before buying SuperDuper, however, does anyone know whether this functionality is forthcoming anytime soon?? I work in a busy laboratory and can't afford to leave the screen unlocked and would ideally like to schedule my backups during the evening after I have left work. If I had realised this wasn't possible I would not have purchased the software. |
Actually, we can back up with a locked screen, Elaine. It's just that you can't *sleep* the Mac if you *also* lock the screen, because that will force password-on-wake.

Note by "locking the screen" I mean a password protected screen saver will work fine. You just can't log out.

Wow, that was a SuperDuper fast response! ;) In that case, thank you and apologies for the misunderstanding. When I read the following I was under the impression that my scheduled backup would not run:
"SuperDuper! does not have to be running for a schedule backup to take place, but the user who scheduled it does have to be logged in, with their account in front (if Fast User Switching is active), and the screen must be unlocked. " Thank you for the clarification! Elaine Irvine |
I know. I was being too conservative because of the 'sleep' issue. :)
