Anyone had this happened?

Booting from a SD clone I went to repair a disc from my kids macbook before she went back to UVM. The repair was made and before I booted back to the internal I thought I would verify the disc again "to make sure". Verify passed but before the drive would mount some utility asked for her password. I entered it and the volume mounted." Hmmmm? Thats never happened before" I said to myself. Selected Macintosh HD as startup disc and restarted. macbook started to boot and ,....... maybe not. The light came on, stayed on (no chime), and after about 10" (i stopped breathing so it might have been longer) got chime and booted as normal. Repaired permissions restarted again and all seems OK. What just happened I thought to myself. Posted on apple boards and no ideas as to what would stall the boot process or why the machine would ask for PW before mounting a drive after a Verify disc had been run. The clone was an older 10.4.10 that was repairing 10.4.11 prior to making an updated clone. She had run the 10.4.11 update while at school.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like you need to repair permissions on your source drive. From what you're describing, part of the OS that's supposed to be "privileged" is not.

OK. The computer is back in vt but i will get to it this weekend. So by source drive you mean the backup volume? I repaired perms on the main drive after booting to it. All checked out fine. I assume you mean to repair the external drive that was the source (boot volume) when I ran DU. Did not do that before running DU. Will do that this weekend.
Thanks
