[OT] What does Time Machine leave out?
 

I verified my Time Machine backup by restoring it to an external drive. Afterwards I re-used that drive as another clone. Surprisingly SD copied almost all files again, even though they should be identical.

I'm sure SD is doing the right thing, so what metadata did Time Machine not restore?

I'm sure it changed all sorts of dates, and who *knows* what other data it might not have restored...

I used Lion Recovery, the result booted fine and everything worked. Disconcerting not to know how it differs from the original. I'll have to dig around next Friday 13th ;)

Inaccurate restores can still work, of course. They're just, well, not the same as the original.
