Backup scheme
Hi,
I have a G4 imac with Panther on it and want to perform a clean install of Tiger on the same machine. I just downloaded Super Duper! backup program and need to to the following: I want to backup all my pictures, music, documents, safari bookmark, ical appointments ETC and preferences of finder ETC. For this task to I use "backup user files" ? I do not want to backup the applications themselves. and how do I perform the restore operation? I went through the users manual but it does not describe this scenario. Thanks in adavance Peter. |
You can't easily do this, Peter. It's one thing to restore a few files from your backup, but it's another to try to move in your whole Home folder: since you'll be logged in as that user, many files will be "busy", etc.
Instead, what I'd suggest is making a *full* copy of everything, then doing your clean install and using the Migration Assistant -- which comes up at first boot -- to migrate your files and applications to Tiger. Alternatively, why not just upgrade after making a backup? |
backup
Thanks dnanian for your quick reply
I'll go with the first option. The reason I want to do a clean install is that there are some apps that don't work properly or don't work at all and trashing then reinstalling didn't do the trick. Thank you. Peter |
