back up itunes on external to 2nd external?

Is it possible to back up my itunes, which is on an external drive, to a second external drive with Superduper? Or is Chronosync better suited for this kind of backup?

I currently backup up my mac to a 3rd external (back when 80GB was huge)

Thanks in advance

Mike

You can certainly copy one folder like that with a copy script (you include "Exclude all files" in the include tab, then the folder you want to copy in the Commands tab), but the result will be *just* that folder. Is that what you want?

back up itunes on external to 2nd external?

Thanks for the response. I'm totally green when it comes to scripts. I found the copy script and added it, but it's not clear how to select my itunes folder on my external and back up incrementally to my second external.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Start from "volumes", then the drive, then get to the iTunes folder. Add that, make sure the command is "copy".

Save that script, then use it, selecting the proper source and destination volumes...

I'm afraid you lost me at volumes. When I open Superduper, I have these options in the copy from window-

Macintosh HD
My 80 GB External
Disc Image...

So how can I get to intunes, if my 250GB external is where my itunes is located?

Thanks!

It's not in the list? Is it formatted for the Mac?

mister5 10-02-2007 10:48 AM

Yeah, should be. I'm running OSX 10.4.10 on a G5 imac.

dnanian 10-02-2007 10:58 AM

Right, but check the drive in Disk Utility and see what the format is. (I think it'll be listed in Get Info in Finder, too.)

mister5 10-03-2007 11:08 PM

Hey dnanian- my external drives are formatted FAT 32.

dnanian 10-04-2007 09:43 AM

Right, so it's formatted for Windows. It needs to be HFS+ to fully support the Mac.

mister5 10-04-2007 09:07 PM

Ah so I'm screwed then! I have 60 GB of music....

dnanian 10-04-2007 09:15 PM

Not screwed, no. You probably want to back up that music, too -- so, I'd get another drive, formatted/partitioned properly...

mister5 10-07-2007 02:39 PM

When I meant screwed, I was referring to my previous frustration in redirecting itunes home directory. If I got it right:

1 change the folder location of itunes library to 2nd external drive
2 reformat first drive to be compatible with Super Duper
3 copy music folder back to 1st external drive
4 change the folder location back to itunes library
5 reformat second drive to be compatible with Super Duper
6 backup itunes folder thru Super Duper.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help.

Mike
