Smart Backup vs. Erase

I don't seem to find this answered either in the help file or a search of the threads here.

I've done about three clones of my drive so far. The first was, obviously, erase (to an empty LaCie partition). The next two have been Smart Backup.

My QUESTION. Is there "overhead" involved in doing Smart Backup? That is, would it be good practice after every so many Smart Backups to do an Erase and start over? If so, how many?

Rationale: I'm about to migrate to Snow Leopard, and I don't want any gremlins to creep into my backup.

Thanks!

There's no overhead in doing a Smart Update, no. In general, there's no need to erase... but it won't hurt anything to do so.
