Interupted Backup
Hi,
While backing up my G5, 10.5.2 system to an external drive I interuped the process. The result was Sharing and Permissions on that drive were all set to (unknown) and R+W. When coping the files over to the boot drive the permissions change to "everyone and custom". Oddly, when I change this to R+W they change back on their own. I would like to know if there is a way to change all the S+P on the backup drive to "admin and R+W" in order to re-install the system and then import the backed up data. Thanks for your help, RJ |
Are you sure that ownership is turned on for the volume?

I do not know how to check this.
Thanks, RJ |
It's in "Get Info" for the volume, RJ.

Interupted Backuup
Interesting.
The ID is (unknown) with R+W and the "Ingnore ownership on this volume" box was checked. I unlocked the volume and unchecked the box. I did get a highlighed - (negitive) symble but I was not allowed to remove the (unknown) user name. RJ |
You definitely don't want that box checked... but you can't remove the 'unknown' user -- it's something Leopard seems to insist on being there.

Thanks for your time.
If anyone out there finds a thread to answer this question, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again, RJ |
