SuperDuper safe with eSATA external RAID1 drive?
 

Just wondering if using SuperDuper in "Copy All Files/Smart Backup" mode was safe with an eSATA connection to an external CalDigit or does it make any difference? I can choose between eSATA and FW800.

If the eSATA connection is reliable then I can't think of any reason not to use it. Most apps, including SuperDuper!, won't notice or care if it's eSATA or FW800.

Exactly: we don't care. Note, though: it's highly unlikely your drive will boot from eSATA. But when you need to start up from it, you can switch to FW or USB (on Intel).

So far that has proven to be the case. My SD backup on my CalDigit VR MINI even boots whan connected as eSATA...

My eSATA connection for my CalDigit external RAID drives is plugged into the eSATA optical connectors on my MacPro's motherboard. I will say the the on-board electronics on CalDigit external drives is 100% state of the art... so I'm not sure if the external boot is possible due to the way my eSATA is connected or because of the controller hardware used on-board the external drive itself.
