Any way to backup my files w/ USB external HD and Super Duper?
Hi-
I was hoping to purchase Super Duper! to backup my files to my external HD, but I noticed that the User's Guide PDF says that this won't work-- you need a Firewire connection to an external HD. I'm very disappointed, since I can't purchase a new HD and need to work with the equipment I currently own... is there any way I can still use Super Duper? Thanks for your help... |
That's not what it says, actually -- you can use a USB drive, esme17. You just can't use it as a startup drive (unless you're using an Intel Mac).

I think I understand, but just to be sure (since I'm new to the backup software scene), is this correct: I can use Super Duper to back up my files and programs to my external HD via a USB cord, I just can't use it as a startup drive (which I'd only need to do if my system crashed on my main HD). I can also use Super Duper to back up my files and programs to a series of DVDs, and if my system crashed I COULD reboot from those. Is this correct at all? Thanks so much for the quick response and the help! |
Almost. We don't support optical media.
But, you can start up from your OSX install disc and restore from your USB drive using that. See "Recovering from a disaster" in the User's Guide for the method. |
