SuperDuper! causing overheating
While I realize SuperDuper is processor intensive...I just want to make sure it's not causing unnecessary hardware stress. Every time it runs my fan speed (on a late 2008 solid aluminum MacBook) goes from 2000 to over 6000 for most of the duration of the backup. It's trying to compensate for the increased CPU temps during the backup. Is this normal? Is doing this daily harmful?

SuperDuper! is absolutely not processor intensive. It's I/O intensive, which is entirely different.
Your fan is probably running because the hard disk is working hard, not due to CPU. |
Thank. But that still makes me wonder if the excessive heat during the 15-min backup every day is harmful?

I can't see why it would be. That's the point of the cooling system, after all.

Thanks, Dave.

This has been all cleared up now thanks to your fantastic support! It was evidently something extraneous to SuperDuper! In any event, just did another backup and it went flawlessly...no overheating or excessive fan speed at all. Thanks!!
