Very Slow Backup (had been fast)
I have been using SuperDuper a long time. I have four internal HDs in a Mac Pro, one for System and Apps, one for Files, and identical clones for backups. I backup every few days with SuperDuper and it usually takes only a few minutes for each backup.
Today I backed up the system drive and it went quickly as usual but the files backup (900,000 files) has been plodding along at 40mb/s. There have not been any major changes on that drive and after 30 minutes it shows 86gb evaluated, 45gb up to date and 32gb copied (whoa! - I didn't change that many files!). Any clue what's going on? |
I figured out what happened. I had an EyeTV cache filling up the drive with live video (the video was running on a second monitor and the monitor was turned off.)
So as the video stream filled the drive, SuperDuper just kept backing up the constantly growing cache. I usually don't have video running when I'm backing up and when I quit EyeTV, it clears the cache, so that's why it never showed much of a change during previous backups of that drive. |
Glad you figured it out before I had a chance to help! :)
