Side-by-Side Partitions - Both Don't Boot
 

I have split my HD into 80 and 32 gig partitions and "successfully" used SuperDuper to do a full backup from the 80 to the 32 gig for backup purposes. I only have 19 gigs of data but the second partition won't boot. (It starts with the Apple and a spinning wheel but just hangs forever.) Do I have to do something to the second partition after-the-fact to make it bootable? Both partitions have the same formatting.

You shouldn't have to. Could you describe your system and drives a bit more completely? Does the workaround at the top of the forums help?

I have a 120 gig Fujitsu HD on a MacBook running 10.5.4.
The first partition is 79.9 gig with 60.7 gig available. The format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Partition Number 2 -- I can boot to it successfully.
The second partition is 31.5 gig and has almost 12.5 gig available. The format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Partition Number 3 -- That is not bootable using the Option Key

The only difference I can see from Disk Utility (within Leopard) is that the first partition mountpoint is / and the second is /Volumes/Backup

I created the second partition using BootCamp and then reformatted it using Disk Utility. I guess I could have bought iPartition and done the reformatting that way but this looks like it was the easy way to go.

It's possible that the 2nd partition is mis-marked, somehow, because of the way it was created. Even with a full "Backup - all files" it won't boot? Can you install Leopard to it "straight"?

Problem Not Persistent
 

I did another full backup and this time a bootable partition resulted. I didn't do anything different so I'm not sure what caused the original problem. Thank goodness I can verify the validity of the backup by seeing if it is bootable.
