Converting from El Capitan to Sierra

When converting existing SuperDuper backups from El Capitan to Sierra, do you recommend using Smart Update or performing FULL SuperDuper cloning?

A large OS change is a great time to do an erase-then-copy and cut down on the fragmentation of the drive (and directory) a bit...but it's not required.
