View Full Version : OS boots from USB drive, but all applications crash

this is my big problem. I want to upgrade the HDD of my MacBook, so I cloned everything to an external (USB) drive to be able to restore it on the new drive. I've tried both SuperDuper! and CarbonCopyCloner, but the problem is the same: Leopard (10.5.6) boots fine from the external drive (wifi, menu bar items, everything), but any application I open crashes before even showing its window, referring to some invalid operation or kernel protection.

I reported the problem to Apple, and posted on Apple forums, but I got no reply and I still have hope that I do not need to wait until 10.5.7 comes out and fixes some issue. If it is not an OS bug, can anybody help me?

It really saved my day, and this being Christmas Day, it is a big thing to say. Thanks.

I am just sorry that I did not do my homework to look around carefully. (Honestly, yours was not the first forum I posted on, and I did not delve deep into it before posting. I learnt my lesson.)
