Hi.

I've just created an external image of my HD in a USB drive. I've tried to boot from this external image but with no chance...

Does anyone succeded in this operation?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well... have you reviwed the FAQ entry about drives that aren't booting? Is this an Intel or Power PC Mac? How is the drive partitioned? Did you write directly to the drive or to a disk image file?

What happens when you try to boot from the drive? Does it show up in the Startup Disk preference pane as a possibility?

Hi.

I wrote a disk file image and tried to boot from this. The exact sequence is:
Bkup to an image disk of an external drive
mounted image disk of the external drive
selected the external startup disk from the preferences
reboot

Unfortunately the system boots from the internal drive.

What am I supposed to do?

Thanks again.

Regards.

OK. Disk image files aren't physical drives, and cannot be booted from. You need to write directly to a properly partitioned physical disk...
