Hi,

I am using version 2.1.4 (v82). copying from iMac (about 160 gig). I am not sure if it's Super duper of my Lacie Firewire 400 ext drive but dam it takes forever to copy using Smart Update. last night i took 2 hours and 45 minutes to update about 4 gigs. today I worked on new 600 mb files mostly images and the "smart update" took about 30 minutes. Is this normal?

thanks

mic

external lacie 320 Mb Firewire 400/800. (the one that can be vertically positioned). it's quite a noisy one.

Writing directly to it or to an image? Anything else on FireWire (e.g. iSight, etc)?

no, nothing on it except a "sand box" backup partition. and i am writing directly not to a image.

Don't know what to suggest, migo... doesn't sound like anything's obviously wrong.

yes, I thought so. I have been using superDuper for about 6 month now and it's been taking about 20-30 in avarage to backup, even if I didn't work that day. so either the smart update and not that smart or that just the way it is.

The OP said "mostly 600 MB files." Put a few of those together and you have some sizable, well, sizes. Then, there's the 160 GB amount. Based on my own experience, sometimes 20-30 minutes isn't unreasonable, especially if there are other factors such as processor speed, size of RAM, disk images for such things as FileVault, virtual machines, etc.
