I just got a new seagate freeagent pro to back up my macbook pro and macbook. I partitioned the drive into three sections - cloned my MBP hard drive to the firs partition and had no problem booting off it. Then I backed up my macbook hd to the second partition. Seemed to go well, but when I booted from the clone I got to the desktop and the finder keeps crashing. The menu bar just blinks on and off and when I try force quitting, I see 'Finder" appear and disappear - so I assume it's crashing. In any case, I can't access any menus or anything and have to force a shut down.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you sure it actually started up from the right partition? Try renaming the volume to the same name as the original source... might help.

Thanks! Renaming it worked. Just so I understand better, could you explain why naming it something else would cause this kind of trouble ? On my MBP it didn't cause any trouble...

thanks again for the quick response..

There was likely something installed on this particular Mac that was more sensitive to the volume name. It's hard to say what it was without looking at the various logs involved during the failed boot...

Thanks anyway. Love your software - one of the few pieces of software that I couldn't be without.

best,
