Good day !
I don't have a FW HD, only a USB2 one.
Can I backup and then restore (the whole system & everything)
from a DVD ? This would have to be done more rarely then, if poss.
Thank you,
BW; Omar K Neusser

I'm not sure I understand: you want to back up to/from a DVD, or you want to use the System DVD to restore?

Just wanted to back up to/from a DVD,
instead of a FW harddisk,
if this is possible, didn't find anything in the User's Guide.

It's not possible: we don't support optical media.

I've used a USB2 drive for a year now. It's a cheapo NexStar enclosure with an old rive in it. it boots my MacBook Pro fine (yeah, I got lucky).

But anyway you're sure lucky,
i'll try it on my USB drive to see how it'll turn out...
Thankx for the advice :-)

Omar K N, PPC-based machines (you said you have a G5 in the first post) cannot boot off of USB drives. It is only the Intel ones (timlance said he has a MacBook Pro) that have much of a chance of booting off of USB drives.

Yeah, I missed the OP's statement of G5. OTOH, you can get many PPC (all G5 ?) to boot from USB 2. I do not have immediately at hand the StepSet from macosxhints but can verify it worked on my old 1 GHz G4 PowerBook and a 1GHz eMac.
And, yes, I meant to type "old drive."
