Backup to FW drive, then update on network

Howdy, been a registered user for several years, but now I want to go wireless. I was wondering if it'll work to do my initial back-up via firewire (and using the sparse image or whatever it is called), and then move the drive to my router and do updates wirelessly? Foresee any problems?

Thanks a bunch.
