can not verify source - error 254

Hi,
I tried to copy an image of my xp disk to an empy 8GB volume (hfs journaled) on an external drive (usb). superduper's main window doesn't show any problems (checkmarks beside all items), but the destination volume is empty. in the log (pasted below), it says "could not validate source - error 254", which is the same error I get trying to do the same thing in Disk Utility. I've tried googling it, but while many people seem to run in to the same error, I haven't found anyone who's discovered a solution yet. Any ideas?
Thanks,
John
