Need some advice on restoring...

Hello all,

I would like to ask for some advice on how to proceed with a problem that I currently have.

I recently upgraded to Leopard, the default ›upgrade way›, and I am now experiencing a handfull of problems*. I decided I want to solve these problems by doing a clean installation of Leopard and then add all my data from my previous Tiger installation. However, I am not sure of how to do this in the best possible way (I have a clone through SuperDuper of my previous Tiger installation on an external harddrive)?

So, that is the big picture of what I want to do and I would be very thankful for advice and guidance in how to proceed.

When I read about what other people have done, many have used the migration assistant (I have never used it myself and have no idea of how it works and what the important settings are). But when I think of installing Leopard clean, then importing all my Tiger data and settings (using the migration assistant) the following questions comes to mind:
  • Do I not import the problems I am currently experiencing this way?
  • Is it even possible using the migration assistant to move Tiger data into Leopard, not only Tiger to Tiger or Leopard to Leopard data?
  • If it is possible, should I skip importing certain data such as applications and add them in manually afterwards (if it is possible to skip importing certain data using migration assistant)?
  • If I do not import my applications what about all the data in ›/Library/Preferences› and ›/Library/Application Support› etc. Will this not cause a problem — meaning, importing the above data and then install the applications manually afterwards?

The more I think about this the more confused I get and I really feel I could use some help with best practices of what to do.

I know this is a lot of questions but I am very thankful to anyone who could spare some explaining this to me.

Thank you for reading and have a nice day,
Fridge

* The problems I have experienced after installing Leopard includes;
  • Sluggishness of the whole system.
  • Graphics not as good as before, the dock, resizing the window etc.
  • Other shared Mac users on my network does not show up in the sidebar of the Finder.
  • Loosing the color profile (the screen goes bluish) after the Mac has been sleeping.
