FileVault account not opening

Hi,

Following the user manual advice to back-up from a non-FileVault account, I logged out of my standard user account and into the Admin account (FileVault off) and ran a Backup All Files.

When I restarted my laptop from the backup drive to check the files, logging in to my user account gave me quite a shock. The set-up was the system default (as though the OS had created a fresh user) and the only file in my home folder was "username.sparseimage".

Did I goof something up? Shouldn't my back-up be opening my FileVault user as though it were the original and displaying all my files properly?

Thanks!
allen

That's rather strange, Allen: it should definitely have opened and mounted the sparse image (which is your FleVault volume).

Was this a regular, Back up - all files with Smart Update or Erase, then copy?

I tried both, actually. First, a smart update, then a full erase. Both behaved the same.

I forgot to say, but I'm on a MacBook running 10.4.9.

Thanks!

When you did this from the non-FileVault account, did you log out of the FileVault account, or did you do this with Fast User Switching?

I first logged out and then logged in to the non-FV account, but after that seemingly failed, I rebooted in Safe Mode into the non-FV account and encountered the same road block.

I've tried here to reproduce your issue, but it's not happening. Very strange. Try un-file-vaulting your account, make sure the backup works properly, then re-file-vault and see if that works.
