Question Permissions on clone

Hi

I maintain a couple of SD! clones of my MBP internal.....
I recently decided to do a clean install of my system due to the Finder losing contact with external drives at times.
This all went well - I've noted that if I connect the clone drive (of the old, now deleted system), after booting from the internal, I can navigate into any user folder and get files. Handy and convenient for grabbing files, but I'm sure in the past this wasn't possible, at least with a laptop drive being accessed in target disk mode - tend to see lots of folders with no entry signs and permission denied when trying to access....

Is there a problem with my clone/permissions? or is this normal? The clone boots normally btw.
