How to copy something that doesn't show up in the copy pop-up?

Neophyte question:

How to copy a peripherally mounted drive that doesn't show up in the copy pop-up?

-- I'm trying to copy the full disk contents of a hard-disk recorder in order to attempt a data recovery. It shows up as the white icon on the desktop - so it doesn't really show up as a drive, propper. If I go to the ownership & permissions it shows as read only (with no ability to change so far as I can tell).

Thanks - and sorry if I'm missing something overly basic,

David

Unfortunately, David, if the volume isn't formatted as HFS+, we can't copy it. The hard disk recorder must be formatted as ext3 or something else.

Perhaps you'll be able to copy it with Disk Utility's "Restore" tab?
