Copy error and crash

Hey, it's me again. I ran into more serious trouble this time. I got this error:

SVUclone: Error copying /Users/rob/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Frank Edward Nora/The Overnightscape/268 Overnightscape 268 (8_24_05).mp3 to /Volumes/Clone/Users/rob/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Frank Edward Nora/The Overnightscape/268 Overnightscape 268 (8_24_05).mp3 of type 8

This error wasn't as serious, but my iTunes library database file was damaged somehow and I lost all my playlists, podcasts, etc. I didn't lose my music library, but what a pain.

Anyway, I deleted the file SD had trouble with and I then tried to smart upade the clone and ran into more serious trouble when my Powerbook crashed during the smart update. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out.

Here's the crash report:

It's hard to know how to help here, because you're running into a low-level problem that's well underneath SD!'s operation. Your kernel panic doesn't indicate what, exactly, it's having trouble with. Given no specific driver issue, it's possible the problem is with memory -- but there's no guarantee.

Are the DIMMs you've got Apple-sourced?

offdahook84 10-01-2005 08:10 PM

I was afraid you would say that. Yeah, I ordered the RAM from Apple when I bought the PB. My PB also crashes whenever I run Virtual PC, although it's probably not related. So, the RAM might be the problem? I probably should see what Apple says, huh?

dnanian 10-01-2005 10:10 PM

You know, it's always hard to diagnose these things. But when you get flaky crashes and no drive is implicated, it's usually a good idea to see if it's the RAM.

You can try removing one DIMM, checking, and then swapping DIMMs to see if that makes a difference!
