Can't backup boot volume to external

I'm running Snow Leopard Server 10.6.2 and using SuperDuper 2.6.2. While trying to backup the boot volume to an external FW800 drive, I get the error below. I've already removed and reinstalled SD, rebooted the machine, as well as erased and reformatted the target drive. I've also made sure permissions are set identically on both drives.

I can backup the other internal HD to another partition on the same external drive without any issues.

Please help! This is the first error I've ever encountered using this great software.

Here is the log:

Is your backup drive full?

mrmaxp0wr 11-13-2009 05:53 PM

No. The partition I'm backing up to is completely empty and is the same size as the source drive.

dnanian 11-13-2009 06:29 PM

OK. Please send in your log using the "Send to shirt pocket" button so I can take a look.

mrmaxp0wr 11-13-2009 06:37 PM

I don't use the OS X Mail app, any other way I can get it to you?

dnanian 11-13-2009 06:47 PM

Can you configure the mail application with your account information? You don't need to *use* it -- it just has to be configured...

smarmo 11-18-2009 05:51 PM

I'm having the same issue...

I'm having the same issue on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and SuperDuper! 2.6.2. Same error message.

dnanian 11-18-2009 05:56 PM

OK - send in your log as well (use "Send to shirt pocket").

Just for kicks, check the UUID of both volumes. I had two drives with the same UUID (from cloning I assume) that led to a lot of weird issues.

Cant backup boot volume to external

everyone. Im trying to create a bootable clone of my Macintosh HD drive without success. My computer is a recent Mac Pro running Leopard and the external drive I want to use for backup is a recent 1 TB G-Drive. The G-Drive is formatted as GUID and divided into two partitions, one that Im using for Time Machine and one that I want to use for cloning my internal hard drive.
rn
rnI ran Superduper with the erase and copy option. When it was done, I checked the external drive and saw all the expected directories. I rebooted and held down the Option key. The G-Drive partition showed up in the list of available boot volumes. I selected it and I got the gray screen with the Apple logo. Then the system locked up and I had to hit the power button.
rn
rnCan anybody offer any suggestions?
rn
rnAlso, FWIW, after doing the backup and booting onto the Mac HD, I noticed that the G-Drive runs almost continuously for about 15 minutes.
rn
rnThanksrn

Your client's destination is full (and too small).

dnanian 11-23-2009 07:49 AM

SuperDuper! does not copy the UUID (it preserves it explicitly), but having two with the same value would definitely cause issues.

You've sent this in via email, haven't you, "Mia"?
