how to (shell?) script a logg out/back before smart update ?

hello dave,
in user guide "it's a good practice to quit all running applications...logg out..and logg back" which i am doing manually each time; but how to put it in the Crontab or through SD214 with Advanced options to get it automatic:) ?
thanks

You don't have to quit all apps. The main thing is to avoid running Parallels, VMWare, Virtual PC, Entourage, or other programs that might have large "database" or "virtual disk" files open that they are constantly writing to...

Quit Apps

OK, one doesn't have to do that, but,. what if I want to do so?

Can I get a script somewhere to do that?

Thanks.

I don't have one, no -- but someone might, somewhere... :)

I came to this forum in search of an answer to this question. I just started using the free version of SuperDuper and was considering buying it, but was wondering what it would gain me if I still had to manually log off and back on each time. It kind of defeats the purpose of scheduling. I would love it if someone would let me know if they've found any solutions to this. A way to automatically quit all running programs via a script or some other means would be great! :-) Thanks!

You don't really have to quit everything, Shelly. Just don't run parallels/vmware/entourage or other programs that are constantly writing to large files...
