Spotlight? and Testing?

Now I've done 2 backups (the 2nd one is a Smart backup) - am I experienced yet? ;)

I see in a previous thread mention of Spotlight status - I don't understand what I should be looking for in Spotlight. When I connect my LaCie drive, I see both my partitions on my desktop. When I go to Spotlight they are there too; it seems that my cloned info appears to be there -

1.how do I test it to see if everything is cloned?
2. What should/should not be available through Spotlight obviously I'm a bit confused at this point.

thx

1. If you didn't get any errors, and you used the right script ("Backup - all files") with the right copy method ("Smart Update" or "Erase, then copy"), your data should be there.

2. The questions really whether you want your drive indexed by Spotlight. If you don't, you can add the backup drive to the Spotlight Preference Pane's "Privacy" tab.

sounds good to me, Dave. In your opinion, what would be the benefit or not of having the info indexed on Spotlight?

Everything else on my iMac is on there for viewing, isn't it?

Would the benefit be in keeping my backup private? But, then again, if someone had access to my iMac they could click on anything in any of the programs and see my data anyway????

Or am I misunderstanding what you're telling me?

Again, thanks for your patience with this utter newbie....

The advantage is that you won't end up with duplicates in your searches (one on the regular drive and one on the backup).
