Creating a Sandbox - Only A USB Drive Available :-(

Hi - hoping someone can guide me here.

I have a full backup made to a USB drive with SuperDuper. I'd like to be able to create a sandbox on my Powerbook to check out system updates etc .

As I am unable to boot to the backup in target mode, I'm wondering whether I could safely partition my Powerbook from my install disk, and then copy over my backup to the new install paertition in it's entirety from the USB drive. The SuperDuper manual refers to restoring "one" or a "few" files from a backup - I'm thinking that attempting to fully restore system and user data from a full backup may not be succesful ??

Hope I'm making sense - any help appreciated with this.

cheers

Simon

Hi, Simon. While you could try to do this with your USB drive, since you can't test your backup it's a lot more dangerous. But, you'd basically use the OSX install disc to both partition and restore (as described in the User's Guide).

You'd be a lot better off getting a boot-compatible FireWire drive...

Worked a charm

Hey - worked as suggested in the manual like a charm. I now have a partitioned Powerbook (with everything - in every detail - restored from my original SuperDuper backup ) that will allow me to create a sandbox - excellent and thanks !

Glad it worked for you Simon!
